The Finance & Operations Director plays a critical role in overseeing the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. This hands-on position is primarily responsible for managing accounting functions, budgets, payroll, and compliance, while also supporting HR processes, vendor management, and administrative systems. The ideal candidate brings strong financial expertise and a detail-oriented approach to ensure smooth day-to-day operations that directly support the organization’s mission and sustainability.
Title: Finance & Operations Director
Status: Exempt, Full-time
Location: In-person, Lowell, Mass.
Reports to: CEO
Salary: $80,000-85,000, commensurate with experience
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Finance
- Oversees all financial transactions; supervises accounting systems; responsible for monthly account reconciliations including all cash, investment, A/R, A/P, billing and all balance sheet accounts, vendor invoice entry and bank deposits.
- Closes out monthly fiscal activity in a timely manner and prepares the monthly comparative financial reports and balance sheet; attends the monthly Finance and Executive Committee meetings and Board of Director bimonthly meetings.
- Assists programming staff with program budgets, spending, and reporting.
- Provides direct oversight of external audits and state submissions as required by law; coordinates annual audit with agency staff and auditors; and acts as custodian for financial and legal records.
- Responsible for timely submission of all annual external returns and filings including, city, state and audit requirements.
- Coordinates and meets with internal stakeholders as appropriate to prepare annual budget for CEO review and Finance Committee and Board of Directors approval.
- Presents monthly budget variances, cash flow projections and spending compliance for management to Finance Committee.
- Ensures the preparation of legally mandated documents (unemployment tax filings, state and federal payroll tax filings, and other pertinent reporting) including compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
- Works as part of the internal team on grant budgeting, funding appropriations, and spending compliance.
Human Resources & Administrative Responsibilities
- Responsible for new employee onboarding to include providing benefit and enrollment information, ensuring completion of required forms and providing necessary resource information (e.g. I-9, Employee Handbook and Acknowledgement, etc.).
- Meets with terminating employees to provide them with necessary forms and information related to their transition; may perform exit interview if requested by CEO.
- Processes biweekly payroll.
- Processes EEC background checks for employees, volunteers, Director and vendors; monitors for renewals and notifies those with expiring checks in advance.
- Acts as company’s Leave Administrator for Massachusetts’s Paid Family and Medical Leave Program
- Administers all benefits plans and participates in renewal discussions with insurance agents and/or other vendors and communicates plan changes and enrollment process.
- Ensures that the HR onboarding operations, technology related information and documentation, financial and HR forms and documents are completed accurately and kept up to date in compliance with state and federal regulations and organization’s policies.
Community and Partnership Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, community partners, and families.
- Provide outreach to and develop partnerships with other youth-serving organizations.
- Promote program activities to attract new members, volunteers, and collaborating
partners. - Recruit, train, and support volunteers to deliver effective programming.
Vendor Management
- Coordinates vendor visits and assigns appropriate staff to work with them as needed.
- Acts as initial point of contact for all vendor contracts and insurance renewals, negotiating best terms.
- Reviews contracts for accuracy and clarity and meets with CEO to provide context on any suggested and negotiated changes for CEO signature.
- Addresses facility management issues as necessary; identifies appropriate resources to address issue
- Performs annual System for Award Management (SAM) renewal to ensure proper registration and certification is in order for purposes of federal and state funding and grant assistance.
- Annually files required information (business entity, director information, audit) with the state Corporations Division to ensure compliance and to stay in good standing; and makes required payment
Other Responsibilities
- Leads city annual inspections (e.g. fire, health, elevator, etc.).
- Assists the Chief Programs Officer with Department of Education and Childcare (DECC) to meet
requirements and renewals. - Serves as one of the contacts with the DECC to be able to enter and upload information.
- Serves as IT Data Coordinator, submits tickets to IT vendor to add/remove new users as well as to address
system access and application issues. - Assists Chief Programs Officer with coordinating necessary program staff training
- Acts as training coordinator to ensure that training requirements as outlined within the information security policy (WISP) are met.
- Undertake specific tasks as assigned by CEO to enhance effective overall operations of the organization.
- Engages with CEO on a regular basis to update them on any ongoing issues or concerns, including progress, support and/or guidance needed to work towards resolution.
- Safeguard all confidential information used in the performance of duties.
- Serves as a representative of Girls Inc by displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Girls Inc. community and with the public.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ directly related experience; to include experience with A/P, A/R, budgeting and preparing financial reporting.
- Preferred experience with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care contracts
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment to effectively problem solve.
- Must be proficient with QuickBooks or a related accounting and billing software.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- Strong organizational, communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills

Work Environment and Schedule

The Project Coordinator will lead the coordination of Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell’s move back into its renovated building. This role is responsible for tracking progress, coordinating logistics, and ensuring follow-through across multiple workstreams to support a smooth and timely reopening. This is a hands-on, time-bound role ideal for a highly organized individual who can manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively across teams, and keep work moving forward. The Project Coordinator is expected to proactively address challenges, maintain momentum, and elevate issues when decisions or additional support are needed.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Tracking
- Maintain and actively manage the reopening punch list
- Track progress across all workstreams (facilities, licensing, FF&E, etc.)
- Follow up with staff on assigned tasks and deadlines, helping to remove minor barriers as needed
- Identify, flag, and take initial steps to resolve issues; escalate items that require decisions, cross-team coordination, or are not progressing
- Help ensure accountability and momentum across the team
Meeting & Communication Coordination
- Schedule and support regular check-in meetings
- Prepare weekly status updates (completed, in progress, needs attention)
- Communicate updates, reminders, and next steps to staff
Logistics & Operations Coordination
- Coordinate deliveries (furniture, equipment, etc.)
- Confirm delivery schedules, contacts, and receiving logistics
- Support vendor coordination as needed
- Assist with organizing materials and supplies for program setup
Organization & Systems
- Maintain organized and up-to-date project documents
- Ensure information is clearly documented and accessible
- Support overall organization of the building during setup
Role Scope
- Coordinates and tracks work across teams, helping ensure alignment and steady progress toward reopening goals
- Works in partnership with team members to support follow-through on assigned responsibilities and keep work moving forward
- Takes initiative to address issues within scope and collaborates with team members and leadership to resolve challenges and move work forward
Supervision & Structure
- Reports to: CEO (or designee)

Position Details

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of children and families in your community? Join our after-school program team as a Per Diem Social-Emotional Support Clinician (LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC). In this role, you’ll help create a safe, supportive environment for kids to learn and grow by providing short-term support, crisis intervention, and referrals, while also partnering with staff to strengthen their skills in working with youth.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about youth and families, mental health, and community connection and who brings a collaborative, strength-based approach to working with children, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and crisis intervention for children and families.
- Assess social-emotional needs and make referrals as needed.
- Guide and support staff in addressing behavioral challenges.
- Model de-escalation and positive behavior strategies.
- Build connections with staff, participants, families, and community partners.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
- Valid license (LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC).
- 2+ years of post-graduate experience working with youth.
- Experience in community-based or after-school settings preferred.
- Experience working with DCF involved families preferred.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to successfully complete a Department of Early Education and Care (EEC)
- Background Record Check.
- Bilingual/Bicultural a plus.
Work Environment
- Per diem: 5–10 hours/month.
- Schedule: Primarily afternoons
- Location: In-person at the Girls Inc. of Great Lowell office and program site.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $25.00-$28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

The Program Specialist acts as positive role model and facilitates the daily programming of the School Age Childcare Program serving girls ages 5-12.
Title: Program Specialist
Status: Non-Exempt, part-time or per diem
Location: In-person, Lowell, Mass.
Reports to: Program Manager
Salary: $18/hr
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining a positive, equitable, accessible, safe, and supportive environment for program participants.
- Facilitate programs in an engaging way that is grounded in a belief in girls’ rights and abilities.
- Plan for, set up, and facilitate activities for daily programs for girls ages 5-12 in after school, school vacation, or summer programs; to include engaging in enrichment and learning activities, assisting with homework help and preparing for snack time.
- Actively assist with program related logistics; opening/closing of building, supervising children during unstructured time, supervising children at bus/van drop off, and utilizing behavior management techniques as needed.
- Coordinate and supervise participants during field trips and special events.
- Monitor caregiver drop-off/pick-up procedures as needed and assist in speaking to parents.
- Attend staff meetings and training as required by Girls Inc. and Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
- Serve as liaison between staff, members, and families and handle disciplinary issues that arise; communicate any programmatic or staff concerns to management.
- Attend special activities on weekends and/or evenings as needed, including but not limited to Open Houses and Board events.
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
- Must possess a High School Diploma and be at least 18 years old.

- At least 6 months of work experience with school aged children, with at least 3 of these months being supervised experience or;
- At least 3 months supervised experience and a minimum of an Associate’s degree in any discipline or;
- An Associate’s degree or higher in child development, ECE, Elementary Ed., or related field
- Must have the ability to travel daily between site locations.
- Must possess and maintain certification in First Aid/CPR (training will be provided by GIGL).
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 Office suite applications.
- Bi-lingual, Spanish/English preferred.
