Why Girls Inc?

The Girls Inc. Experience consists of people, an environment, and programming that, together, empowers girls to succeed and overcome challenges.

Programming is designed to lead to these long term outcomes:

Strong & Healthy

Makes healthy choices, manages reproductive health

Smart & Educated

Motivated to achieve, graduates from high school and has post-secondary education, sets & achieves personal, educational, and career goals

Bold & Independent

Has healthy relationships, has sound body image (which is related to self-confidence), uses own voice & advocates for others, is resilient

The research-based programming is hands-on, minds-on, and meets the needs of today’s girls to provide the age-appropriate information and knowledge so girls make decisions leading to healthy lives; succeed academically; and develop life skills to prepare for adulthood.

  • People are trained staff and volunteers who build lasting, mentoring relationships, and peers who share their drive and aspirations.
  • Environment  is girls-only, physically and emotionally safe; there is a sisterhood of support, high expectations, and respect.

These essential elements provide a holistic approach that is grounded in a belief in girls’ rights and abilities. A belief in girls’ rights and abilities is the foundation for all the essential elements. At different ages, developmental stages, or happenings in life, one essential element may be more dominant or present for that moment or period of time. However, that element is always supported and enhanced by the other elements.
