Program FAQs
What does Girls Inc. do?
Girls Inc. provides life-changing programs and experiences to girls ages 5-18. Through educational, interactive programs, we help girls reach their full potential. Programs are nationally researched, outcomes-based, and delivered on an outreach basis. Program topics focus on leadership, peer pressure, science exploration, and self-awareness for girls ages 6 to 18.
Why do you serve only girls?
The purpose of Girls Inc. is to enable girls to achieve their full potential. To do this, girls must conquer social, legal, and cultural barriers that are different than those of boys. By providing programming created specifically for girls, their needs, and their unique challenges, we are able to put them on the same playing field as boys as they grow through life and become independent and responsible adults. Girls Inc. programs aim to improve girls’ lives through purposeful, relevant activities.
What programs are offered?
At Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell, we offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of girls of all developmental stages of their life. Girls Inc. academic enrichment programs focus on reading literacy, economic literacy, science, and math. These programs help girls develop enthusiasm for and skills in STEM (science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurial, and math)-based subjects.
Is there a charge for participants?
Girls Inc. programs are fee-based. Need-based EEC Vouchers and scholarships are available for qualifying families. If you have questions about the cost of the program, payment options and/or scholarships, please call Business and Membership Manager Kiara Veras 978-458-6529 x101 or email kveras@girlsinclowell.org
Does Girls Inc. offer volunteer opportunities?
Girls Inc. seeks volunteers primarily for after-school homework help, and additionally for career exploration group sessions, financial literacy instruction, and specialty programs from a craft-making class to planting an herb garden. The volunteer will guide our members through a self-discovery exercise, and lead group discussions in a fun and exciting way. Volunteers will work with girls in a small group or one-on-one, typically in classroom settings Monday through Friday. Potential volunteers must undergo a screening process in order to participate.
